Title I Parental Notice

The Every Student Succeeds Act requires local education agencies (LEAs) that receive Title I funds to notify parents that they can ask for and receive specific information about the qualifications of their children’s teacher. LEAs must send a written notice at the beginning of every year that is understandable and that contains certain specified elements. LEAs must also notify parents about an unqualified teacher who has been teaching their children for four or more consecutive weeks.

Energizing Title I Annual Meetings

ESEA Section 1116(c)(1) requires all Title I schools to hold an annual meeting at a convenient time to inform parents about the school's Title I program, its requirements, and the rights of parents and families to be involved.

Many LEAs and schools report facing dwindling attendance at this meeting. The following nine upgrades can attract more parents and set the stage for family engagement later in the school year.
